Is this an emergency?
If someone is in immediate danger, at serious risk of harming themselves or others, or needs urgent medical attention:

Emergency Services: Call 111, Any time, 24/7

DHB Crisis Assessment: Call 0800 611 116 to find your area’s number, Any time, 24/7

Emergency Department (ED): Go to your nearest hospital's Emergency Department, Any time, 24/7

Medical Practitioner – General Practitioner (GP)
A GP can help with mental health support that isn't an emergency.

They can:

  • Listen and assess what's going on

  • Refer to community mental health teams, specialists, or counsellors

  • Discuss and prescribe medication if appropriate

  • Access funded counselling sessions through ACC (for trauma) or primary mental health programmes.

  • You may be able to request your GP refer to your preferred Psychologist services

If not registered with a GP, they can call Healthline (0800 611 116) for advice on next steps or to find a local doctor.
